I wrote this blog post about one of my photographs being featured on the homepage of Crated…and it happened again today! I woke up to the notification email from Crated saying my one and only painting (thus far) on Crated is now featured on the homepage! Wild!
I am still trying to minimize my typing and heal my hands/arms, but will link to the history behind my paintings, here and here which contain better explanations as to why this acknowledgment is especially appreciated.

I haven’t been blogging lately due to the continued issues with my hands and arms, and have been feeling a bit disheartened about the challenges in creating and promoting my photography and art (as well as struggling to get through the rest of my life). I try to stay positive and look at my situation with humor, but some days I am not as successful at it as I’d like to be. Therefore, it was an extra special kind of awesome to find an email from Crated, notifying me that ‘Ghost Boats In Morro Bay’ has been featured on their homepage. Click here to view a previous blog post about this photograph. I am still trying to keep typing at a minimum for now, but wanted to post this bit of good news. I hope to be back to blogging on a much more regular basis again soon!

A vibrant ink painting depicting swirling red and purple flowers atop stems of green, blue and teal.
While I currently see myself as primarily a photographer, I have begun to explore my artistic roots again. You can read more about the reasons behind this exploration here.
I must admit I’ve really overdone it lately, and my body is complaining loudly and quite persistently. At a time when each press of a key on my keyboard makes me wince, I wanted to post this bold and vivid explosion of color and movement. Not only is it a celebration of the possibility of alternate forms of creativity, it also features one of my favorite photographic subjects – the flower.
As an avid gardener, taking pictures of flowers is what initially led me into the amazing world of photography. Therefore, this alcohol ink painting is a reminder of two of my greatest passions. I cannot currently do much digging in the dirt, nor can I go exploring the inner secrets of flower petals with my macro lens on a whim. However, I am working on finding different manners in which to explore my loves. I fervently hope to return to them more fully at some point soon, having been enriched by finding other ways to appreciate them during our time apart.
Blue tropical water lily petals emerge, beautifully dreamy in their softness.
Sometimes life gets too complicated and becomes overwhelming. It just does. Sometimes bad things happen. They just do. At times like these I know I need to slow down and take a moment to view the world in a different way. All too often we are caught in an endless stream of work, stress, and obligation, and we forget to “stop and smell the roses” as it were…instead we are too busy whizzing by them to notice their silky perfumed petals, jagged leaves, and prominent thorns.
Photography has become my way to stop and view my surroundings from a different perspective. I pause, find what interests me, and compose an image. My mind slows and then fills with color, pattern, and composition, instead of the stress of the day. My focus becomes narrowed to something as simple as the blue tips of these water lily petals; somehow this makes me feel better, even after I am done taking photographs.
